Four Ingredient Homemade Vegan Bread

This recipe is made with only four simple ingredients-flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Actually, we might have to rename this to Magic Bread, it’s that good! Let the baking begin!

Four Ingredient Homemade Vegan Bread

First, a little note about water temperature:

For our recipe the water temperature needs to be around 100 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit to activate the yeast. Too cold and the yeast won’t activate. Too warm and the yeast will be killed. I use a meat thermometer to temp my water. If you don’t have one that’s ok. Just use really warm water that you would use to wash your hands.

Measuring your ingredients:

The best way to measure your flour is to spoon it into the measuring cup and level it off with a knife. This gives a more accurate measurement, which is important in baking. You can scoop and level the rest of your ingredients also. Mix your dry ingredients together and then add the water and mix again. Your dough will be sticky, that’s what you want.

Now cover your dough with a towel and, if you can, find a warm spot for it. Let it rise for one hour.

The yeast will produce gas which causes it to rise. Your dough will double in size and get little holes all over it.

Take your dough out of the bowl and put it on a well floured surface. Your dough will be sticky and absorb most of the flour. Knead your dough until it isn’t tacky anymore, adding more flour if needed, and shape it into a rectangle. Line a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper and press your dough down in it, pushing it into the corners.

Cover your dough and let it rise one more time. This time only for 30 minutes, until the dough reaches to just about the top of your loaf pan. Bake for 20-23 minutes, until the top of your bread gets a beautiful golden brown color.

Try to let your bread cool a bit before slicing!

My absolute FAVORITE way to this eat bread? Sliced warm from the oven with a big pat of butter smeared across. The butter melts a little bit and it’s absolute heaven!!

“Mom” tip:

Once you get the hang of making this bread, you’ll be able to make it in your sleep. This is a great recipe for toast, school sandwiches, grilled cheeses, you name it. You’ll feel great giving your kids homemade bread instead of store bought bread which can be filled with questionable ingredients. Make a loaf or two of this vegan bread on the weekend and have fresh bread for the week!
